Our young people seem to easily grasp the challenges of using computers to do family history research and indexing. Helping them to have opportunities to learn and share can be invaluable to their spiritual growth because this work comes with promises from the Lord of protection and support..

Indexing

Many of our youth are dedicated indexers. More of them would be  welcomed as there are millions of records yet to be done.
Our young people can also be excellent  teachers assisting both adults and youth to use the computer to index valuable records and to  search for their ancestors. To see how they might serve, we encourage you to watch the following video.

Serving

Elder Nelson said,
“Spiritual connections . . . are formed when a young woman helps her grandmother enter family information into a computer or when a young man sees the name of his great-grandfather on a census record. When our hearts turn to our ancestors, something changes inside us. We feel part of something greater than ourselves.” 

Scouting

Scouting offers our young men opportunities to prepare for life. Earning the Genealogy Merit Badge gives a scout knowledge he can use the rest of his life. Learning to do Family History (Genealogy), helps us to learn from the lives of our ancestors as we learn more about ourselves.
At the FamilySearch Library we have three certified merit badge consultants who love scouting. We will work with one boy at a time or with a group. By contacting us first, we give the scout a packet which when followed, walks him through the steps. Then we meet with the boys and take them through the last part and certify them.
