Learning the Basics of FamilySearch:
You want to do your family history, but it has been a long time – or you haven’t ever done it and don’t know where to start. Maybe you have been called to be a Family History Consultant and want some additional support. The St. George FamilySearch Library is offering a one-day class that will cover the basics of using FamilySearch to learn more about your ancestors.
You will be introduced to:
1. Creating and building your own family tree
2. Learning more about helpful resources available in Family
Search
3. Beginning your research to extend your family
4. Signing up for the partner sites offered to members of LDS
Church
5. Understanding “Memories” – adding your photos and stories
to your family tree
6. Becoming comfortable with handling duplicate records
7. Using “Descendancy” research

Discovering Your Family Tree in Family Tree

Discovering Your Family Tree in Family Search:
This class will help you learn how to navigate the Tree and how to locate and how to work in Family Tree.
You will NEED: Your own FamilySearch account. If you need help to get an account come to the library before the class.
The following topics will be addressed in this class:
1. How to navigate in FamilySearch
2. Adding names and information
3. How to add family names and details
4. Editing names when they are incorrectly entered
5. Adding Sources using the Source Box and using
6. How to attach (enter) records and sources
7. How to use Hints offered by FamilySearch
8. Using the Sandbox
9. Looking at and navigating a Temple List Names for the LDS Preparing and printing FOR’s

Memories On Family Tree

Memories On Family Tree:
This is a 3 hour hands on class covering how you can attach photos, documents, stories, etc. to an ancestor. Adding visual pictures and records helps to make them real. These additions help to tell their stories. Now on FamilySearch you can even attach audio files. Once you find a ancestor, you may find that another relative has already added even more information. This class will show you how to find what, if anything has been added and help you to understand what can be accomplished in the ‘Memories’ part of FamilySearch.
If you have photos or documents, bring them on a flash drive.
If you need help, come prior to the class and someone can help you scan the photos, stories, etc. you may have onto your flash-drive.
If you do not have pictures, you may find that others have added some of your family's pictures. You can learn how to add them to your family members too.
Class members will learn:

- How to edit and add, correct and discover other family pictures available in FS
Sources & Hints in Family Tree

Sources & Hints in Family Tree:
This is a 1 ½ hour hands-on class with the focus on
how and why sources validate and strengthen the records you add to your family records.
This class will help to understand the purpose and need of adding sources to your family as well as how to add them.
Class members will learn how to:
a. Add Sources found in FamilySearch and other sources
b. Create a source from a record you have
c. Using your Source Box
d. Tagging Sources
e. Merging records and sources
f. Use Tree Connect to add sources from g. Use the ‘Learn” button and YouTube

Matching & Merging Duplicates in F. T.

Matching & Merging Duplicates in Family Tree:
This is a 90 minute class.
Every genealogy tree is not perfect especially when several different people may add information to the same Tree. A tree may be missing
people, have people who don't belong, have incorrect dates, duplicate
records and more.
The focus of this class is to learn how and when to correct errors with roper supporting proof that can likely be accepted by other family
members.
Class members will learn:
This is a 90 minute class.
Every genealogy tree is not perfect especially when several different people may add information to the same Tree. A tree may be missing

Descendancy Research:
This is a 1 ½ hour class with Hands on help and learning.
When your g.g grandfather left the ‘old country’ and came to America, he probably left behind siblings and cousins who had children and grandchildren, etc.
These are your family also, and you can find them by doing what is called Descendancy Research.
This can be a ‘gold mine’ for finding more of your family names.

FindMyPast

FindMyPast:
This is a 1 ½ hour, hands-on class.
FindMyPast is an excellent source particularly for research in England, France, Germany, and the Norwegian countries as well as in the Unites States. Membership in this website is free to LDS members.
FindMyPast has excellent videos and tutorial information. Just like Ancestry and My Heritage, this easy to use website often can have the information you have hoped to find. Class members will be impressed by the ease of use and outstanding tutorials offered there.
You will learn how & why to consider adding your tree onto this site as well as how to locate and save records. This class is worth your time.
MyHeritage

MyHeritage
This is a 90 minute hands on class.
MyHeritage is truly one of the largest and most exceptionally developed genealogy sources. It is organized in such a way that it is

You will learn how to put a tree on MyHeritage, the benefit of doing that.
Also you will learn how to use the site to connect you with ‘ ' 'cousins’ and how you can find and use the many records housed on the site.
American Ancestors - LDS Interface

American Ancestors:
A 1½ hour class with hands on. American Ancestors is the website of the New England Historic and Genealogical Society, the oldest genealogy society in the world.
They have records from all over the world but the bulk of their collection is for early New England, England and Canada.
American Ancestors allows LDS members to have a free account to part of this website.

3. Hispanic Catholic baptismal records
We will also find the actual images of records whose original microfilm images are marked “image not available” and the extra information those images may provide.
