Father’s Day is coming soon, and we have a perfect gift idea that will probably cost nothing, will take only a little of your  time, and will probably have a long lasting value. Here it is!

Read through the lists below. Choose one or more  of the phrases below, and then write a paragraph or two completing suggestions of your choice.

If you choose to write about someone who is no longer alive, you can put together pieces of their life by their time period and from relatives and family history. Recently I learned some facts about my great grandmother that completely changed my impression about her. I wrote it in about an hour and posted it in this blog a few weeks ago, but I also . . .

sent it to family members. I felt so close to this great grandmother by learning more and then writing about her. It was rewarding to receive the responses from my siblings and cousins.
I have decided that for Father’s Day, I am going to write about my father-in-law whom I loved from the first day I met him. I was particularly moved by his daily family prayers around the kitchen table. Those prayers helped me to know how to pray more effectively but I also learned that he actually knew his Father in Heaven.  He changed my life through his prayers and how he lived his life.

Read over the list to the right. See if any of the topics create a spark in your memory about which you might write. It does not need to be long. List the points you want to make and in what order you want to put them. Then tell your story. Short or long, it will warm hearts and be far more meaningful than a new shirt, tie, or candy. There may be a surprise for you when you complete this. You may feel a true connection to this person. A gift like this may not be about your father or the person you are giving it to, but it might mean more to them than any purchased gift. Give it a try.

We would love to hear from you. Please share your experience with us.
