Have you ever heard of an old time barn raising? I remember my father telling me about a barn raising that took place on the farm he grew up on when he was a little boy on the western plains. All the neighbors came together and worked hand in hand to build my grandpa’s barn. By himself, it would have taken grandpa several months to build his barn. But with the help of others, it was completed in just 5 days.

a presentation given by David Rencher at the 2010 National Genealogical Society Conference entitled “Doing Research in Real Time-An Exhilarating Collaboration Experience!” Its purpose is to demonstrate that genealogical research can be conducted by forming a collaborative team that can work together online. By utilizing this type of approach, a small team of researchers can produce more artifacts and results in less time than a single researcher working alone. In this video, Rencher uses a team of 5 other individuals to demonstrate how easy it is to use the collaborative approach to get some amazing results. The video is a quick watch at only 10 minutes. Printable handouts are also available for use. Take some time and watch Doing Research in Real Time: A Collaborative Approach. You will get some great ideas to help you move your research along.
