We are getting the message loud and clear—you like the Family Tree photos experience.

Since the launch of our photos and stories tools early last year, nearly 120,000 of you have uploaded more than two million photos, stories, and documents. More than 1.5 million people have viewed or contributed photos in just the last four months. We’re happy to see so many people sharing their family memories, but we’re not done yet. The team is hard at work looking for ways to refine and improve the process to . . .

make it even easier to feel the magic of connecting with generations past and present.

One of the latest refinements will launch on January 29. Given the great response from our users (you!), we have been adding new categories of what can be added, viewed, preserved, and shared on the site. As a result of these additions, we are changing the main navigation of the site to say “Memories” instead of “Photos.”

The second level of navigation and the photos pages will also be slightly modified to make it easier to view the different types of memories.

In addition to updating the photos landing page and viewer pages, we have updated the views of memories associated with the pedigree and person card in Family Tree to simplify and provide consistency in navigation for memories across the site. Nearly 1.5 million memories have been connected with persons in the Family Tree, and we are enhancing your ability to link and find them.

These changes should make it easier to view, add, edit, and share the different types of family heirlooms you can post to the site today—photos, documents, stories—and leave the door open for other types of heirlooms that have been requested and that could possibly be added in the future (think obituaries, audio, video, and so on).

If you haven’t had a chance to try the memories tools in Family Tree, come check them out. You’ll discover what others have already added, and you’ll be able to share easily your own memories with family, regardless of where they live.
