Why turn to Military Records? What can be found there?
Use military records to:
  • Find evidence of military or patriotic service
  • Find residence at time of military service or pension
  • Find birth information
  • Find evidence of family relationships
  • Find relatives who served and left clues about your family

FamilySearch/Wiki, Ancestry.com and Fold3 are our top choices for military research.

FamilySearch/Wiki is free to everyone, so try the active links to discover what they have to offer. Ancestry.com and Fold3 each have portions that are free for a beginning level of research, but they are basically subscription sites. However, both are available free at the St. George FamilySearch Library.

In each of the following three articles we review one of these sites for what they offer in military record research.
