On December 7th, 1941, the United States naval forces stationed in the Pacific islands experienced a tragedy that dramatically changed world events and affected the lives of Americans throughout the world. On that day, hostile forces attacked the American naval fleet stationed in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. More than 2,500 United States soldiers died in that air attack which caught American naval forces completely by surprise. Never before had Americans been attacked by a foreign military force on their own soil. This event was the deciding factor in drawing the United States into World War II. It forever changed how Americans view our country and our role in the world.
