This Saturday the 14th, the St. George FamilySearch Library is joining many other locations and inviting all indexers to come in and help to move the massive Italian Ancestors project forward. The project has been put at the tops of the list. There is a concern that many indexers are thinking that they could not handle the difference in language. However, those who have joined in the work have used the helps offered and found it extremely doable.
See the map and the how-to videos below. The map shows how many Italians are in the United States and other countries outside of Italy. These people need to be able to find their ancestors. If you believe in this work, your help is needed. Come and . . .

stay an hour or all day. Let's give those searching for their Italian ancestors what we gave so many others with the 1940 census, our HELP!

If you are an experienced indexer or a new indexer, come this Saturday from 12 noon to 5:00 pm and help to make a major increase in the digitized Italian records. If you are new, we will teach you. Knowledgeable helpers will be available on site to answer questions and help you to do well. Remember how fun the 1940 project was. Consider that this collection represents more than 115 million digital images and upwards of 500 million names. In the past three years, only 57% of the project was complete. This Saturday we aim to change that. FamilySearch and the Italian National Archives are making a joint effort to digitize, index and publish the full collection of Italian Civil registration records (births, Marriages and deaths) as soon as possible.

Come join us this Saturday and help to make a difference. Look at the map and click on the links below to learn more.

What Is Indexing Like? Indexing is a simple, and engaging, activity. You view an image of the historical record in one pane and enter what you see into a customized, labeled grid in another pane.If you see the name Robert in the image, you type it in the designated cell in the grid. The names, dates, places, and other information you enter will become part of the online search, opening up that record's information in ways that weren't possible before.

Additional Resources and Help is Available! We appreciate your willingness to volunteer and want you to have a great experience. For more in-depth help, tutorials, and other resources related to the Italian Ancestors service project, please see our Resources page.
