
A new month has come already! February is all lined up with Valentine's Day and President's Day. But that's for next week. This week we have a lineup of classes to keep you going along that road to "genealogy expert".
As a heads up -- nearly all of our classes require basic or good computer skills. We start the first week of each month with Beginning Computer Skills parts 1 and 2 on Monday and Wednesday taught by Glen and Norma Hovey. If you have been letting your skills put you behind in the genealogy game, now is a great time to conquer that keyboard. This class teaches the use of many FREE computer "tools" that make family history research quicker, easier, and safer for your records. Learn about the proper use of a flash drive, Gadwin PrintScreen, CutePDF, Paste Special, Safer Passwords, and more. The little tools that are so valuable as you research will soon become indispensable for all your computer uses.
Wednesday, Feb 4, 10:00 morning, Jim Orman will be teaching us about Digital Photo and File Organization. You will learn a variety of methods to digitally organize your files and photos for quick and easy access, preservation, and ease of sharing. All the tools needed for this strategy are on or available to your computer.
Thursday, Feb. 5, Jim Orman is presenting a Memories class. This word conjures up a variety of thoughts and nearly all apply. This is a 2-part class all on the same morning. The first part is an overview of photos, documents and stories that you can attach to your ancestor in FamilySearch. Your ancestors were real people with eventful lives. The way they become real is by telling their stories through photos, documents and stories. Part 2 is a workshop to put into practice what you learned in part 1. Please come with your FamilySearch username and password, and if possible, one or two photos or documents on a flash drive that you would like to add to Memories.
Thursday, Feb. 5 evening, Elder Cheney will be presenting a class on Italian Indexing. Indexers are sorely needed and taking this class will help you to see it is not as difficult as you have been thinking.
Friday, Feb. 6, 10:00 morning brings a brand new class on Family Tree Maker taught by Alice Anderson. This record manager is created by Ancestry.com and easily synchronizes with your online Ancestry tree which synchronizes with FamilySearch Family Tree. With everything synchronizing it is a simple thing to keep everything the same. What changes in your Ancestry tree, changes in your Family Tree Maker and visa versa. It couldn't be easier. Learn how to use it and why this may be a good move for you. Please bring your Ancestry username and password and your FamilySearch username and password.
Also Friday, Feb. 6 morning, Alora Howard will present The Best Sources Win, a class that teaches you how to locate sources and how to add them to your tree, giving accuracy and confidence to your research. Learn about the Source Box, tagging, merging sources, Tree Connect, and more. Without sources, it is mythology. Sources are not scary.
Saturday, Sat. 7 brings us around to part 3 of the 3-part series, Consultant and Priesthood Leaders Training. This class will complete the series. If you are a new consultant or Priesthood leader involved in family history, this is a "must-do" class. The next series of this class will start on Sat. Feb. 21. Learn about your calling. Please bring your FamilySearch username and password.
We end each week on Saturday from 1:00 pm - 4:30 pm with our Spanish Day. We have Spanish speakers available to help you with your research needs. Need some instruction in Spanish? We can do it. You are welcome any day of the week, but guaranteed to have Spanish speakers on Saturday afternoon. Come check us out.
