Discover How and Why to Use Military Records to Learn More About your Ancestors

​FamilySearch Library classes will be dedicated to learning how to find out 
if, when, and where your ancestors served in the military.

You may be asking, why are military records of any help in building my family's history? 
 
Some of the information available in military records can include:

- Full name often in their writing
- Place of birth, physical descrip-        tion, occupation, term of service
- Place of joining is clue to home          location
- Date and place mustered in                and date mustered out or death.
-  Draft records,, pension records,      bounty land grants, units, battles
-  Their unit, battle fought, details

The variety of details available in military records can provide clues to build, and in many cases assist in developing the life story of a relative who proudly served their country.
