Adding Sources to Family Tree
ADDING HISTORICAL SOURCES TO FAMILY TREE
- Sign into Family Search. (The Beta Window may appear which shows a Record Hint.)
- Click on the “Review and Attach” button to review the source.
- Once you have determined this is your family member, click the “Attach” tabs to connect the source with the person.
- Click on the “Add” tab to add Individual information, such as Residence, if desired.
- Click the “Attach” button.
- Repeat these steps for each person on the screen to add information or attach the source to their Vital Records.
- Once the information is green on both sides for all persons, click on the person’s name (to the right of “Go to: Record”) to go back to his or her page in Vital Records.
- You can then search for other sources.
- Click on the “Family Search” link on the right.
- Review the selection of sources.
- If one of the sources is a match for your family member, click on the “document” icon on the right in the Details column.
- Review the information. If it is a match, click on the “Attach to Family Tree” button to add the source to your persons.
- Follow the instructions shown in 3. a-c to add the sources to your family members.
- Occasionally, one or more persons on the left do not align correctly with the person on the right.
- To correct this, left click on the double arrows to the left of the person’s name.
- Drag and drop the person into the correct position.
- Click on the person’s name to return to their Vital Records page.
- On the “Detail” page, click on “Sources” to verify that the source was added.
