Adding Sources to Family Tree

ADDING HISTORICAL SOURCES TO FAMILY TREE
  1. Sign into Family Search.  (The Beta Window may appear which shows a Record Hint.)
  2. Click on the “Review and Attach” button to review the source.
  3. Once you have determined this is your family member, click the “Attach” tabs to connect the source with the person.
    1. Click on the “Add” tab to add Individual information, such as Residence, if desired.
    2. Click the “Attach” button.
    3. Repeat these steps for each person on the screen to add information or attach the source to their Vital Records.
  4.  Once the information is green on both sides for all persons, click on the person’s name (to the right of “Go to:  Record”) to go back to his or her page in Vital Records.
  5. You can then search for other sources.
  6. Click on the “Family Search” link on the right.
    1. Review the selection of sources.
    2. If one of the sources is a match for your family member, click on the “document” icon on the right in the Details column.
    3. Review the information.  If it is a match, click on the “Attach to Family Tree” button to add the source to your persons.
    4. Follow the instructions shown in 3. a-c to add the sources to your family members.
  7.  Occasionally, one or more persons on the left do not align correctly with the person on the right.
    1. To correct this, left click on the double arrows to the left of the person’s name.
    2. Drag and drop the person into the correct position.
  8.  Click on the person’s name to return to their Vital Records page.
    1. On the “Detail” page, click on “Sources” to verify that the source was added.
